Vodafone has added more than 4m new subscribers in the three months to the end of December.

The world’s largest mobile operator reported the strong figures, also revealing that its European customers are statistically spending more on phone services.
According to Vodafone, ARPU in the 12 months to the end of December rose to £287 ($468) in the UK, up from £282 in the year to the end of September. German ARPU rose to €312 ($337) from €308. In addition the Italians spent €347.

Vodafone had a total of 112.5m customers at the end of December, compared with 107.5m in September last year

Data revenues look like they are going to become the next revenue driver, as promised by analysts, with figures rising to account for 13.9 per cent of all service revenues, up from 13.2 per cent for the year to September.

Vodafone has said it aims for 20 per cent of its revenues to come from data by 2004.
