VeriFone's Omni 3750 countertop and Omni 3600 wireless point-of-sale (POS) terminals have been deployed to support Mexico's first Internet-enabled POS solution for pre-paid phone services.

The solution eliminates the need for retailers to carry traditional scratch off pre-paid phone cards by allowing them to generate print-on-demand vouchers for pre-paid services directly from the terminal.

The POS application developed by IDEA is currently being deployed on VeriFone POS terminals to 1,000 retail locations in Mexico that distribute Unefon telephone services.

VeriFone's Internet-enabled point of sale terminals eliminate the need for retailers to purchase and track pre-printed scratch-off PIN cards that Unefon issues to retailers selling pre-paid phone services. Instead, retailers can access the Internet from the secure browser running on their VeriFone POS terminal to get a PIN directly from Unefon's Web server. The PIN is then printed on a customer receipt right from the terminal.

VeriFone Omni 3750 and Omni 3600 POS terminals were chosen for this program in part because they feature VeriFone's exclusive micro-browser technology for secure Internet access, an open architecture, and 128-bit SSL encryption.
