MADRID, May 2, 2003.- The Spanish office for Patents yesterday made public the Kalysis´patent # 200101056. This opens up Pandora’s Box in a very incipient sector: applications for network connected smart cards.

The patent application was submitted to the Spanish Patent Office on May 9, 2001, and it is the first and only patent in Spain in the area of Digital ID and ePayment based on SmartCards. This patent has strong industrial and legal consequences for the early development and use of intelligent cards on the Internet and over wireless networks.
Be DrakeFrom the moment of publication, the use of SmartCards, card readers and their applications on the Internet in the form of prototypes from the Social Security, voting identification, Digital ID, etc., including those made by companies such as VISA, Europay, Mastercard, SUN, Deutsche Bank or SEMA or other products on the market such as Cryptokit from the National Factory of Coins and Stamps; would all be violating the industrial property right of Kalysis.

Since 2001, Kalysis has been the first company in the world to have capabilities to offer (multi) applications online for SmartCards and is also its inventor.

The publication of the State of Technology number 2186534, by the Spanish Patent Office, confirms the monopoly for Kalysis´ solutions for Digital ID and ePayment based on SmartCards and gives Kalysis the leadership in a sector that has a growth potential of 100% for this year.

Since the foundation of Kalysis, the company has made several confidential presentations to “selected” investor presenting the multi application capabilities for SmartCards with working prototypes of MEI®, initially using only simple phone cards by Telmex.

The consequences for violating Kalysis industrial property sprinkles on Banamex and Citibank, at the time in the process of merger in Mexico, and Inbursa; Carso Group and Telmex. All of these companies were in detailed discussions with Kalysis, and in the case of Banamex for a period of more than 10 months, during which time confidential and privileged details of the Kalysis´ applications were exchanged with high executives of electronic banking companies. The result was the launch of the Banamex credit card “B-Smart”(which included a chip) in September of 2002. Strangely enough, another company that also received detailed and privileged information, Propon, was awarded a 40 million contract for the technical development and support for the launch in January 2003 of Telmex's Smart Card.
