| Mobitel, the largest mobile operator in Slovenia, has presented a new service called aMoneta. It's a mobile payment for vending machines.
The main feature of this payment is that transmission of purchase information is in the form of voice. Your GSM becomes a link between the vending machine and the authorisation server. The voice transmission is encrypted. Since the transactions are made based on voice communication, this solution can be used with all mobile phones on the market and also with all future generation mobiles.
Payments via mobile phone for vending machines was developed by Mobitel in cooperation with the Ultra company and is under international patent law protection.
How is this service being used by consumers? To get a cold drink from a vending machine. The aMoneta service has been used in about 100 Slovenian vending machines since February.
Vending machine process
- place a voice call via gsm to: 189150189 is the number of the authorisation server at the mobile operator's HQ 150 is the amount of money you wish to use
- listen to the instructions
- place your gsm on a special shell (terminal) on the vending machine
- the amount of money you chose is loaded on the vending machine
