European Consumer Broadband Markets

 Not just a fat pipe dream
Consumer broadband uptake is finally starting to live up to the hype that has surrounded the sector for the past two years. While an economic slowdown has impacted heavily on much of the telecoms sector, broadband uptake continues to show double-digit growth.
Datamonitor's new report, European Consumer Broadband Markets is a detailed analysis of this rapidly growing sector. It forecasts growth for seven individual country markets in Western Europe, with detailed segmentation by access technology and content type. The report also provides a detailed pan-European overview of the broadband market, looking at the key drivers and trends that will ensure continued growth within the sector.
Consumer interest in broadband services has increased significantly over the past
12 months, fuelled by widespread marketing initiatives from leading service providers and, considerable, price reductions.
Key findings and report highlights
• Broadband services will reach over 41 million European households by the end of 2006.
• DSL will remain the prominent broadband technology in Europe, accounting for almost two-thirds of household connections in 2006.
• Revenues from broadband connectivity will reach almost $13 billion by 2006
• The UK and Italy in particular will show strong uptake of broadband services from 2002 to 2006.
• The German market will retain its role as Europe’s largest consumer broadband market, with over 11 million households connected by 2006.
• Consumer spending on broadband content will increase rapidly over the next four years, reaching a total of $3.1 billion by 2006.
